As I’ve been preparing for my year I’ve been asked this question many times, so I figured what better topic to write about!


‘Year out, not year off.’

Contrary to popular belief, gap years are not solely undertaken by a swarm of undergraduates each year, in fact more and more post graduates are taking a year out to build upon their CV before joining the rat race. The key phase here is the term ‘a year out’, not ‘a year off’. A 2011 survey commissioned by showed that 85 % of HR executives questioned felt that relevant work experience is more valuable to a job seeker than an average non-vocational degree, and 65 % believed that a constructive gap year spent volunteering or gaining work experience overseas made a job application stand out.
